Guy's and St Thomas' children/young persons service

The Guy's and St Thomas' Paediatric and Young Persons Diabetes Team offer a comprehensive integrated service from babies through to adulthood.


Consultant led paediatric clinics take place on the 1st and 3rd wednesday and 4th thursday afternoon of the month.  There is a transition clinic on the 2nd thursday afternoon of the month and also paediatric diabetes specialist nurse led clinics.  These clinics take place at the Evelina Children's Hospital at the St Thomas' site and have dietetic and psychology support.


The paediatric service caters for people with type 1 and type 2 diabetes and has a special interest in monogenic and other rarer forms of diabetes.  There is also a developing insulin pump service.


The Young Persons Diabetes Service offers a comprehensive monthly clinic for screening and diabetes review for young people with diabetes. The service is provided by a senior diabetologist, a paediatrician, a team of diabetes specialist nurses and support from a psychologist, dietitian, and the diabetic eye screening service.

The service offers staffing continuity with the aim of encouraging young people to attend on a regular basis.

Who Is the Service For?

The Paediatric service is for babies, children and young people up to th eage of 16 years.


The young persons or young adult service is for young people aged between 16 and 21 years, who have either type 1 or type 2 diabetes, and who have moved from the diabetes paediatric transitional service.
